- The Grit began in early 2002 when big Lou and Louis Ville moved from Newcastle to London. They formed the band with the original bass player Johnny Ricah (now of “the King Blues”) and started rehearsing in Camden town.
After a difficult six months, John moved back to Geordie land and Big Lou and Louis Ville continued to press on, going through one bass player after another until they got fuckin sick of electric bass players and decided to get a double bass player on board instead.
The boys then met Strangy who has been on the Psychobilly circuit for many years playing with bands like Klingonz, Celtic bones and demented are go. Strangy joined the grit, and the band stepped up a notch playing many gigs all about town and supporting some bigger bands.
After a year or so, Strangy decided to go to the U.S with demented, and eventually, the band met little man Kurt who took over on double bass. In the same breath, gaff was appointed to take over on drums and the band has never looked back.
The grit have since recorded their self titled debut album, headlined six of their own D.I.Y U.K tours, toured Holland and Finland, played the wasted festival in Morecambe, Amsterdam and London Astoria, and supported a shit load of big bands on the scene.
In late 2005 the grit completed their new EP “I Came Out The Womb An Angry Cunt” which had a limited run of just 200.
2006 started well, playing the underworld with King Kurt, a handful of UK dates, and another tour in Holland. In June ’06 the band supported tiger army on tour and began recording their new album. In October 2006 after another UK tour, the grit signed with infamous German label “People Like You” records, and recorded “Shall We Dine” which was released on 26th March 2007.
The album came out to great reviews, and a album release tour of the UK to coincide. After another trip to Holland, the band look forward to a festival-full summer, after being booked for Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds festival, Back To Future festival and Electric Picnic to name just a few. The grit then undertook a two month stint in Europe in the autumn, followed by a December UK tour to promote their surrender single.
Their second album ‘Straight Out The Alley‘ was released in April 2009.
