In 2000 and 2001 the.embassy were officially the most talked about band in the North East of England. ‘The Violent Number‘ saw radio stations across the UK and Ireland go overboard in their unanimous praise for this fabulously skewed, dynamically inventive pop masterpiece! Seven plays on Steve Lamacq‘s Evening Session, one on the Session In Scotland, C-listed on XFM, playlisted on the Student Broadcast Network, playlisted by eight student stations, sessions for Puremix.com, BBC Radio Newcastle and several student stations, plus plays on BBC London Live, Youth FM (a ‘Priority Tune’) and virtually every regional and student station in the UK and Ireland! The band have played a stormin’ A&R-jammed gig at Fierce Panda‘s Club Fandango, undertaken a short but mega-successful tour of the Scottish Highlands, won a Battle Of The Bands competition at Newcastle Arts Centre (much to the envy/annoyance of the other bands on the bill who started a mini-riot!), headlined the New Bands Stage at the WOW Festival (the largest free festival in Europe) and generally talked the talk and walked the walk in their own inimitable style…
A year later they released the single ‘Sky Ranger‘. Written by Lee Haley while in bed on a wet Tuesday afternoon. It’s the ultimate escapist daydream: I don’t want to be a pop star, I don’t want to be a footballer, I want to patrol the sky on a flying bike! I want to be a Sky Ranger! As eclectically different to anything that was presently on offer, more radio mayhem followed before the untimely tragic death of one of the management team caused the band to take a long hiatus.
Expect Lee Haley to re-appear soon. A talent that big can’t be contained for long!
