Andrew Hodson

In the words of The Wire, “Rarely can something so painstakingly assembled have sounded so fluid”.As well as being played on Radio 3’s Late Junction, Andrew Hodson was also interviewed on the station’s Mixing It programme where he was able to ask listeners to email if they would like a free copy: over 250 listeners responded. A subsequent review on BBCi led to free copies being sent across the Continent and the US.

Recently Andrew completed and pressed 1000 copies of his new CD In Your Heart You Will Find Your Dreams. He made this album in the summer of 2004 in collaboration with people at Royal Bolton mental health unit. Over 2 months, he invited everyone (staff and service users alike) to record sounds of their choosing. Some recorded sounds of their environment e.g. fax machines, phones, computers, fire extinguishers, kitchen sounds, alarms, birds, babies, bubble wrap, taps running, books shutting etc. Others recorded themselves performing on the unit’s piano and organ, on their own guitars, or percussion instruments made available to them. Some performed their own poetry or songs. These recordings were then painstakingly edited into the finished album. These 1000 copies are going to be given away to the people involved, though the album will be available commercially very soon.

Andrew Hodson also had a band called The Matinee Orchestra with strings, trumpets, cellos and guitars embellishing his laptop visions. The orchestra’s first album, Thankyou For Listening is to be released in September by Arable, the label curated by ISAN’s Robin Saville. Similarly for version, Andrew will communicate a live In Your Heart… with live band embroidering his delicate file manipulations.

Post-The Matinee Orchestra Andrew Hodson formed a new band, Warm Digits, a Krautrock / Blizzard-Wave duo with Steve Jefferis (aka Cathode) who released two albums on Distraction Records before signing to Memphis Industries.
