New Signing: Sector One

As music publishers we receive regular briefs from music supervisors looking for “Kraftwerk influenced” or “mechanical beat” music, so we researched some of the artists making that type of music and was introduced to the composer and producer, Roland Snickars from Stockholm, Sweden, the man behind Sector One. The music he produces is strongly influenced by early electronic music from the 1970’s & 1980’s, and is made with all analogue vintage synthesizers and drum machines – just what we needed.

Roland’s producing career started in the late 80’s with one synthesizer, an 4-track cassette recorder, and one Atari ST computer, making mainly jingles for local radio stations. Music making was then put on hold for a number of years, until the dawn of software synths peeked his curiosity. A few virtual synthesizers was purchased and the urge for making music once again was awaken.

Indeed they sounded good, but not as good as their real hardware counterparts. And being raised during the digital era left him with a big curiosity for the mysterious and often mythical analog synthesizers pre MIDI, and in 2009 Sector One was brought back again. This time to make music with all analog vintage synthesizers and drum machines recorded with modern digital equipment.

It is absolutely no secret that the fifth studio album from Sector One, Telecommunication, has a strong sonic flavour of vintage Düsseldorf. The theme, telecommunication, reflects on the evolution of communications between humans over distance by means of technology and the man-machine-interfaces involved.
